About the project
Nová Spirála (New Spiral) Theatre is located in Prague's Exhibition Grounds in Bubeneč. Originally built as the circular cinema in the 1960s, the unique building was transformed into a theatre in 1991 for the All-Czechoslovak Exhibition.
The name "Spiral" reflects the building's distinctive interior, where interlocking spiral ramps lead the audience to their seats around a central stage. This remarkable design was awarded the Grand Prix of the Architects' Association in Reconstruction category in 1993.
Severely damaged by the 2002 floods, the theatre stood unused for years. A major reconstruction began in 2021, restoring the venue as a multifunctional space for up to 800 spectators, featuring a 360° auditorium, revolving stage, and excellent acoustics.
